Design and build a portfolio of all your projects and hard work until now.
Make a list of your projects and publications, add them on your CV and
upload them on your online Profiles. (Linkedin, Monster etc.)
2. Expand your Networking
The more engineers we know the better.
Sometimes we feel we have a pretty big circle of engineer friends from
College, University, previous job etc. The truth is that we need to go beyond
that to succeed in Engineering. Try to liaise with professionals as much as you
can and gain more experience. Attend Seminars, Webinars and lectures outside
the required classes.
Build a strong online profile on Linkedin, Monster and other job
professional related websites.
3. Have a Mentor
Successful people never reach their goals alone.
Try your best to liaise with more experienced people.
4. Develop Leadership Qualities
Employers always prefer candidates that
have prior leadership experience and have demonstrated that their leadership
skills helped in achieving the goals.
Leadership is a must have skill to climb up the
ladder in the industry.
5. Teamwork
Successful people never reach their goals alone, handle conflicts while working towards achieving a common goal.
6. Communication Skills
Good communication skills make it easy for
everybody to understand exactly what is on your mind, brings people closer and
lets you express your level of understanding.
7. Make your
Free Time Productive
At your free
time try to research modern techniques used in your field of study.
Attend
courses, seminars, webinars, Liaise with other Engineers.
8. Pick
your Field of Study Early
Try to pick
your branch of study as early as possible. This will make you very strong and
competitive with more experience from somebody that is not sure which branch or
field to follow.
9. Gain
Experience
The more Experience
you have the more reliable you are, the more confident you are and the more
respect you gain.
